Owing to the inclement weather we could not hold many launch picnics as we did during the previous summer; however, we did have one, and it was run at a loss too!
Besides the usual social activities, the Double Ten Concert and Dance was held with great success. This function was well attended, the guests numbered about 800. We thank the com- mittees, especially those who helped in the decorations, for their kind help and co-operation.

Dr. M. B. Osman left us to join the Malayan Medical Service. We gave him a farewell tea party, but this was only a small way to show him our appreciation for what he has done for the Union in the past. We wish him every success in his future career.
There were two issues of the Union Magazine during the year. The Editor and Business Manager (Messrs. Chan Fung-kee and Peter Pau) were responsible for the success of the July Issue. The October issue also sold well and realised a profit of $110.24. We congratulate the Editor, Mr. Yeap Choong-yow and the Business Manager, Mr. K. T. Loke.
Since the beginning of the year under review, several hun- dred books on varied subjects have been purchased for the Jordan Memorial Library. These books have been obtained from local book-sellers and from England. New book-cases to accommodate

the new stock have been made, and the old rules for the lending of books have been revised. About 200 Borrower's Tickets have been issued. We congratulate the Hon. Librarian, Mr. Yeap Choong-yow, and the Sub-Committee of the Library on their splendid work in the great improvement that has been effected, and also to Messrs. F. Hiptoola, K. T. Loke and Dr. M. B. Osman for the selection of the Books.
The Athletic Association and the affiliated clubs enjoyed a successful year. The athletic meeting which was held in March was well organised and the officials and committees are to be congratulated on the success of the sports. Lugard Hall won the Inter-Hostel Championship again. We congratulate Mr. Lee Hah-ling, the Individual Champion, on his fine performance of equalling the 100 yards and the 220 yards records, and Mr. Lee Chwee-moke on breaking the Pole Jump record by 11⁄2 ins.
The Cricket Club did quite well in both divisions of the League, although it lost the services of several of its best cricketers, who had left the University. In the annual matches, the Past The vs. Present Match ended in a victory for the former. Phoenixes, captained by Mr. F. Hiptoola, beat Dr. Ponsonby's XI. The Inter-faculty matches were also played but resulted in a draw. We congratulate Mr. S. R. Kermani on his cricket green,' and those players who were awarded their 'phoenixes' during the year.

Perry on winning the Men's and the Ladies' Championship respectively, and Messrs. F. Y. Khoo and T. K. Lien, the Doubles Championship. Both the tennis teams did well in the local League, but the Mixed Doubles Team was not so fortunate. The Medicals won the Inter-faculty tournament, while Eliot Hall, once again, won the Inter-hostel Shield.
The Basketball Club had a fairly successful year and also did well in the Hongkong Open League. May Hall is to be congratulated on winning the Hett Inter-hostel Shield again. The Inter-faculty matches ended in a draw. We congratulate Mr. T. K. Lien on his winning the basketball 'green' and those players who have been awarded their club colours.
